COST OF LIVING IN IRELAND
Ireland is the one of the most expensive countries in Europe and the second highest in the euro zone. The VAT in Ireland is at 21 %, and in general the cost of living seems to be about 20 % higher than in the UK.
Accommodation costs near and in the centre of Dublin are high, so are visits to restaurants (between 25 € and 75 €) and other leisure activities. Bars and cafes are normally a bit cheaper.
For those who are looking for a place to rent, here are some guidelines on prices:
- Unfurnished studio: 450 € - 650 €
- Furnished studio: 520 € - 750 €
- One or two bedroom apartment: 650 € -1300 €
- Two or three bedroom apartment: 970 € -1780 €
- Four or five bedroom apartment/house: 1300 € -2150 €
Overall costs excluding rent mean that single people should expect to pay approximately 970 € to live, couples 1545 € and a family with two children 2929 €. Additional there might be health costs (20 € to 25 € per visit to the doctor) and specialists (40 € to 50 € per visit), stays at the hospital (approximately 120€ per night in a private clinic) and domestic staff (5 € to 12 € per hour).
