FINDING A JOB IN IRELAND

Finding a new job, especially in a foreign country can be very intimidating. The conventional process of looking for a work in Ireland can still be used, with newspaper and internet advertising on a par with the UK. There are also several reputable employment agencies with which you can register. The chief disparity here is that more often than not the best jobs aren't publicized and the best way to acquire employment is through contacts and connections.

It has been demonstrated that the majority of job openings are concealed in the hidden job market. This is when positions become available and other employees hear about the opportunity and suggest a colleague or put themselves forward. The job is therefore never advertised on the open market. The best way to tap into this market is by making contacts, which you can either do yourself on a personal level or go to a professional recruitment agency and let them do this for you. Remember to take advantage of every possible contact you have including friends, local shopkeepers, your landlord and neighbours. With perseverance and poise, even the most casual acquaintance can give you a potential job lead.

If you decide to send your CV out to certain companies, do not sit back and wait for a reply. Irish firms can be protracted in their responding to applications so you need to be hands-on and follow your CV up with telephone calls. Do not be afraid to be persistent, it shows drive and determination.
