HEALTHCARE IN IRELAND
The public health system entitles Irish residences to free treatment. Citizens from other EU countries can also make use of the public health services on presentation of a European Health Insurance Card. A medical card is available for those with an income below a certain amount and those who are over the age of seventy. If you are a citizen from a Non-European country only some services are free of charge and you will have to pay for the rest.
Additionally there are private health insurance companies available. Ireland's major private health care insurance companies are Vhi Healthcare, BUPA and VIVAS Health. The standard tax rate of your private health insurance premium attracts 20 %.
The majority of Ireland's hospitals are run by trusts or foundations and provide a full range of services and treatments including emergency and accident services.
