| Description |
The I.S. Project Leader shall report to the Head of Information Systems.
With regard to the initial assignment of Network Services the successful candidate shall assume responsibility for the management of all aspects of the Council’s network service and in doing so will perform the following duties: -
• Manage the maintenance and upkeep of the entire network infrastructure including structured cabling systems, wireless and telecommunication links, active equipment, file servers, client computers, printers and the Council’s telephone systems.
• Ensure the timely and reliable delivery of the Council’s systems throughout the organisation by the monitoring and planning of network utilisation and capacity.
• Manage the Council’s Technical Support Team to ensure that the support service is delivered in an effective and responsive manner.
• Continually review and enforce the Council’s network security policy. This includes the maintenance and configuration of the firewall, anti-virus systems and backup systems as well as contingency and disaster recovery planning.
• Participate in the planning and implementation of the I.C.T department’s work program, annual budget and cost control.
• Plan and implement an ongoing program of renewal and re-investment to ensure that the organisation’s existing I.T. investment is protected.
• Play a key role in the development of an I.C.T. Strategy.
• Identify education and training needs within the network services team to ensure that a high level of professional competence is maintained.
• Assume responsibility for asset management including procurement, valuation, depreciation control and the disposal of redundant stock.
• Assume responsibility for all software licensing and ensure the Council’s full compliance in this area.
• Foster relations with other government agencies, suppliers and service providers. This includes the negotiation and formulation of service level agreements.
• Keep abreast of Information Technology evolution and identify opportunities for such technologies to be gainfully utilised by the Council.
In addition the I.S. Project Leader (Network Services) will perform such other duties, appropriate to the post, as may be assigned from time to time. Other Project Leader assignments include Database Management, Geographic Information Systems, Application Development and On-line Services Management. |
